Fresh Start

I had a week off of work and did I get any sewing done?

Nope.

I wanted to, and after a couple of days of vacation I'd finished up some other stuff & was ready to, but I organized the sewing area instead. My (small) fabric stash has been swatched onto index cards, with the fabric itself neatly tied into rolls and stored in a labeled flip-top bin.

Gone are some once-promising but now-wadder-chalk it up as a learning experience-projects such as my bodice sloper and a previous princess seam blouse that I had altered into oblivion and could no longer figure out where I was.

I am sticking with 3 of my basics at this point:
Basic princess shell
Basic darted blouse
Basic pants
with the princess shell at the top of my list, since it's summertime and this is a sleeveless top (however, I would wear it under a jacket or sweater at work).

Both the shell and the darted blouse are very close to becoming well-fitted, tried 'n true patterns and I'm excited to start making them in different colors and prints and work toward an actual wardrobe plan. I definitely want to try them in Brussels Washer fabric.

My in-progress Basic princess jacket has been set aside until autumn because the fabric isn't suitable for summer. Besides, I just bought 2 linen-rayon blazers from Jessica London in khaki and light olive, so I'm good for jackets at the moment.

My sewing stuff has been packed up for quite awhile and I miss it! It was packed up to make room for a season of extended visits by family which we have truly enjoyed so it was a worthy trade-off. Family visits will be done in a few weeks and in the meantime we decided that we'll be moving into a different house a few weeks later, so my sewing and craft things (other than sewing-related stuff I have just a few jewelry-making and scrap-booking supplies) will remain packed until it's arranged in our new abode. Focusing on family and transition decisions has taken up my mental space so it's just now, as I begin creating the vision of our next home I'm looking forward to having a sewing space again.

You Were Born in California and Have Never Been to Yosemite?

Until 2 days ago, I would have had to answer, "Nope, never been there." But now I can proudly say, "I have been to Yosemite. I have seen the highest waterfall in the United States, El Capitan, and Half Dome." We joined my brother Bobby and sister-in-law Dee Dee, along with nephew Jeremy, neice Sierra and her hubby Josiah and their little girls Havilah and Gigi for a whirlwind of a weekend that managed to be both exciting and relaxing. On Saturday Bobby & Dee Dee took us on a one-day tour of Yosemite (more pics in the Gallery ). The scenery was tremendous. If there's this much natural beauty just 4 hours from where I live, what wonders must heaven hold? I really enjoyed seeing the families from all over the world. Saturday night Darren & I saw the Eagles at Calaveras County fairgrounds. Great concert. Sunday we kicked back. We did not get enough of Yosemite though and may return this winter.
