Shirts and Pants

The 1st Butterick/Unique B4609 shirt (pink/black stripe) is done, the 2nd (blue/white stripe) shirt is waiting for buttons which are waiting for the hem. I've got some pants and a jacket to work on after these are finished, but I'm coming back to this pattern when I start my SWAP. All I have to do for a perfect fit is to extend the shoulder width a wee bit, tweak the forward shoulder alteration and raise the armscye a tiny bit more. I want to play with this pattern--maybe try different collar styles or a straight hem instead of a curved one.

The pants (1 pair black to wear with shirt 1 and 1 pair blue to wear with shirt 2) are coming along. I'm having rise issues. I have to pull the pants waaayyy up in the back to get rid of back-thigh bagginess and pulling them that far up destroys the fit in the back waist. I think it may be the fabric, which is a fairly heavy blue stretch twill. I'll finish these and start on the black poly pants. I'll be interested to see how the different fabric affects the fit. And in order to cut down on confusion I'm going to stick with PP Pants for Real People as a reference.

Too bad only one shirt goes with one pair of pants--not very good planning, that. Oh, well. I'm practicing my sewing and fitting skills right now--sort of pre-wardrobe plan preparation.

I scored with $1/yd fabric at Wally World--yards and yards of washable 'unknown blend'. Some gray, some textured greenish gray, and some nifty black w/pink and blue pinstripes. It feels like poly, could be some rayon in there. Maybe I'll do my first burn test to find out. Perfect weight for slacks. It washed and dried beautifully with nary a wrinkle. I'm going to use it to perfect both the pants pattern and my jacket:

To sum up my sewing to-dos for this weekend:

  • Finish blue pants (attach waistband & hem)
  • Finish blue striped shirt (hem/buttons/buttonholes)
  • Make black pants--I wonder how fast could I do that?
  • Trim jacket pattern & check for fit
I guess that's enough It didn't seem like much in my head but it looks like a lot written down.

I So Want to Sew

The pattern is cut out and pressed, the cutting mat is laid out on the table, and pre-washed fabric calls out to me. What is missing? TIME, that's what! And if there's a little time to be had there has been NO ENERGY left to git 'r done. But things are picking up and I hope to have 4 dark blue knit work shirts made this weekend for dh. I just bought him a coupla pair of olive green 'Big Daddy Cargo Pants' at Penneys. Finding work pants for Dh that fit, are comfortable and don't rip the first day on the job has been an adventure. These pants look great on him and they are stretch twill! Yay! I had picked up some black and brick-colored knit collars at The Place That Sells Sewing Machines but now I have olive-colored pants...what to do? Here's what: I'm going to try and find matching olive knit or woven material to use on the work shirt placket and (maybe) collar! How coordinated he will be! Oddly, dh doesn't seem as excited about this as I am....

You Were Born in California and Have Never Been to Yosemite?

Until 2 days ago, I would have had to answer, "Nope, never been there." But now I can proudly say, "I have been to Yosemite. I have seen the highest waterfall in the United States, El Capitan, and Half Dome." We joined my brother Bobby and sister-in-law Dee Dee, along with nephew Jeremy, neice Sierra and her hubby Josiah and their little girls Havilah and Gigi for a whirlwind of a weekend that managed to be both exciting and relaxing. On Saturday Bobby & Dee Dee took us on a one-day tour of Yosemite (more pics in the Gallery ). The scenery was tremendous. If there's this much natural beauty just 4 hours from where I live, what wonders must heaven hold? I really enjoyed seeing the families from all over the world. Saturday night Darren & I saw the Eagles at Calaveras County fairgrounds. Great concert. Sunday we kicked back. We did not get enough of Yosemite though and may return this winter.
