Sewing Mission Statement

To sew my own stylish, everyday clothing that looks like well made ready-to-wear but fits much better.

I saw the above blurb in Threads magazine and it is exactly what I strive to do. So I made it my sewing mission statement. It sure sounds good but I'm not there yet. I've had to figure out my personal style, which is a fun thing to do. I've read, enjoyed and learned from a ton of wardrobe planning and image books like these:

They all suggest that you find your personal style. Mine is a sort of casual/classic. Out of the above recommendations,, Ready to Wear and 40 Over 40 were the most helpful for everyday wardrobe planning-probably because they are the most recently published.

I like you have decided I am a classic/casual or classic/natural depending on what you are reading. Helpful list of books you posted, some new to me. Thanks.

Cozy Purple Pop of Color

Cozy purple throws for snuggling!  Adds some color  to the living room.  Thick fleece trimmed straight with rounded corners.  I tried some overcast stitches with my Juki however I couldn't get the look I wanted so I pulled out my serger. Gosh it's been, like 2 years since I used it but luckily it worked (I've had it for quite awhile but I'm still kinda afraid of it 😜).

Crafty Stirrings

My sewing stuff has been packed up for quite awhile and I miss it! It was packed up to make room for a season of extended visits by family which we have truly enjoyed so it was a worthy trade-off. Family visits will be done in a few weeks and in the meantime we decided that we'll be moving into a different house a few weeks later, so my sewing and craft things (other than sewing-related stuff I have just a few jewelry-making and scrap-booking supplies) will remain packed until it's arranged in our new abode. Focusing on family and transition decisions has taken up my mental space so it's just now, as I begin creating the vision of our next home I'm looking forward to having a sewing space again.
