Now that shapley shirt is finished I am going to direct my sewing energy to wardrobe planning. I must decide on some basic patterns for tops and bottoms.
I need:
Top/blouse for woven fabric (currently working on this)
Top/T-shirt for knit fabric (have tried a couple, but don't yet have a 'tried & true' pattern; want to use for twin sets also--Threads has an article on how to make the topper using the same t-shirt pattern)
Slacks pattern (My Unique slacks pattern toile fits well. After I work on the woven shirt pattern this is the one I'll work on next. I want to nail down the fit and try different leg widths, zipper location, etc.)
Skirt pattern (I do have a 'tried & true' Vogue skirt that would probably work for this)
Jacket pattern (This one is nailed down--my Unique jacket pattern)
The idea is to have 1 perfectly fitted pattern for each of the above, then make several of each in different coordinating fabrics for a workable wardrobe.
I'm starting with the woven top/blouse. I've got a click 'n sew blouse pattern printed up and some $1.99 stretch cotton with which to sew it. This will be a basic semi-fitted v-neck blouse. I'm very interested in getting the neck/shoulder/bustline to fit properly because I cannot bear it when shirts fall down my back and I'm also very bugged by excess fabric at the shoulder crease just above the bust. At first I thought the culprit was forward shoulders but I've recently realized that both problems could be caused by sloping shoulders. In my wardrobe/style reading I've learned that v-necks and deep scoop neck shirts will be most flattering to me. Once I have the basic v-neck shirt pattern I'd like to play with style options like different collars and sleeve lengths. Wouldn't it be great to have 3 or 4 great-fitting, comfortable stretch woven shirts in my closet! I could pair them with nice slacks for work, jeans for after work, or cropped pants for the weekend.
