Sometimes Life Gets in the Way

I haven't been able to sew lately. I've been sick. Then there was Thanksgiving. Now I'm working on getting ready for Christmas.

And another thing....I bought some clothes, and that has taken the pressure off because I now have some nice slacks to wear to work. I found some pants at Avenue that fit me quite well; I'm even considering using one pair as a pattern. I didn't realize how much pressure I was putting on myself to make my own clothes. I just assumed I wouldn't get a decent fit from RTW (based on past experience). Now I can relax a little. I have made a muslin of the SB Vogue bias dress and bolero/shrug. I haven't tried it on yet. It may be too late to make a holiday dress out of that pattern, but I still need a mother-of-the-bride dress for March.

I will get back into sewing later in December. I have the week between Christmas and New Years off of work. I'm looking forward to really getting to work on the MOB dress, and I have some new Unique shirt patterns to try, plus all my other works in progress.....looking forward to getting back into it.

Crafty Stirrings

My sewing stuff has been packed up for quite awhile and I miss it! It was packed up to make room for a season of extended visits by family which we have truly enjoyed so it was a worthy trade-off. Family visits will be done in a few weeks and in the meantime we decided that we'll be moving into a different house a few weeks later, so my sewing and craft things (other than sewing-related stuff I have just a few jewelry-making and scrap-booking supplies) will remain packed until it's arranged in our new abode. Focusing on family and transition decisions has taken up my mental space so it's just now, as I begin creating the vision of our next home I'm looking forward to having a sewing space again.

You Were Born in California and Have Never Been to Yosemite?

Until 2 days ago, I would have had to answer, "Nope, never been there." But now I can proudly say, "I have been to Yosemite. I have seen the highest waterfall in the United States, El Capitan, and Half Dome." We joined my brother Bobby and sister-in-law Dee Dee, along with nephew Jeremy, neice Sierra and her hubby Josiah and their little girls Havilah and Gigi for a whirlwind of a weekend that managed to be both exciting and relaxing. On Saturday Bobby & Dee Dee took us on a one-day tour of Yosemite (more pics in the Gallery ). The scenery was tremendous. If there's this much natural beauty just 4 hours from where I live, what wonders must heaven hold? I really enjoyed seeing the families from all over the world. Saturday night Darren & I saw the Eagles at Calaveras County fairgrounds. Great concert. Sunday we kicked back. We did not get enough of Yosemite though and may return this winter.
