More sewing table skirts

Just about finished with the sewing skirt panels. Picked up the tension rods I need for the 2nd table, too. After spending $50 on rolled hem presser feet (2, each of a different width), I realized that this is a quickie home dec project and there is no need for fine couture techniques, or even amateur-looking rolled hems in this case. I could just zig-zag the raw edges and turn the hem as I sew. So that's what I did. I only press at the end, after all the edges have been finished and turned, and the panels look great. I'm returning the presser feet and putting the $$ towards my serger fund. This project would've gone a lot faster with a serger and if I have a serger I don't believe I would need rolled hem presser feet for my sewing machine, since I'd do that on the serger. Now that I've got one table skirted and can see how nice it looks I realize that I need to alter the press-table cover to fit so it looks neater and then make a sewing machine cover. Hmmmm.....I see the main cover out of the same toile as the skirt, with the ends out of the same plaid as my sewing/piano chair slipcovers, and piped edges out of---green maybe?

I wore my navy-blue skirt I made for the plus size contest and discovered that it is quite loose. I need to take it in. After which I may edit my skirt pattern review to include the alteration and add another photograph showing the skirt better. If I edit the review I need to do it by 9/30, 'cause that's when the contest ends.

I So Want to Sew

The pattern is cut out and pressed, the cutting mat is laid out on the table, and pre-washed fabric calls out to me. What is missing? TIME, that's what! And if there's a little time to be had there has been NO ENERGY left to git 'r done. But things are picking up and I hope to have 4 dark blue knit work shirts made this weekend for dh. I just bought him a coupla pair of olive green 'Big Daddy Cargo Pants' at Penneys. Finding work pants for Dh that fit, are comfortable and don't rip the first day on the job has been an adventure. These pants look great on him and they are stretch twill! Yay! I had picked up some black and brick-colored knit collars at The Place That Sells Sewing Machines but now I have olive-colored pants...what to do? Here's what: I'm going to try and find matching olive knit or woven material to use on the work shirt placket and (maybe) collar! How coordinated he will be! Oddly, dh doesn't seem as excited about this as I am....

Narrow Back and Full Hips

There's a thread on Pattern Review about fitting a narrow back and a full bum. That's exactly what I have! I think these alterations are going to prove very helpful: Els' swayback and rounded upper back alteration Debfxvt57's full-hip adjustment I won't need to alter for a rounded upper back for myself, but anything I made for my older daughter would need it, so I'm glad to have found it.
