Serger Arrival and Trouser Turkey

Let's get the bad news over with: The Purrfection Perfect Trousers were not perfect. Before I even took my serger out of the box I basted the trousers for a quick fitting. They are too low in the back, undoubtedly due to my booty shape, and there are unattractive smile creases in the crotch area. Since I have a custom drafted trousers pattern waiting in the wings I'm not going to fiddle with this pattern at all. I'm going to unbaste them and try to use the pieces for my Unique trousers pattern, with which I hope to have better luck.

And now for the good news! My serger is HERE! She arrived in one piece and works like a dream. Easy-peasy to thread--just like threading a sewing machine x4. Serging is "sew" different! Tonight I plan to serge dh's other polo workshirt after I practice securing seams and serging on scraps from the shirt's knit fabric.

Between mailers, emailers and in-store flyers I have six--count'em--six 50% off Jojos coupons--three for Friday and three for Saturday. I'll get some interfacing and batting and maybe some material for my WIP shirts--Purrfection's Poet's Blouse and SB's Today's fit asymmetrical closure raglan sleeve job. Oh, and I need material for those Unique trousers if I can't re-use my turkey trouser fabric (which was a real nice bottom-weight black stretch twill--really hate to waste it....).

I So Want to Sew

The pattern is cut out and pressed, the cutting mat is laid out on the table, and pre-washed fabric calls out to me. What is missing? TIME, that's what! And if there's a little time to be had there has been NO ENERGY left to git 'r done. But things are picking up and I hope to have 4 dark blue knit work shirts made this weekend for dh. I just bought him a coupla pair of olive green 'Big Daddy Cargo Pants' at Penneys. Finding work pants for Dh that fit, are comfortable and don't rip the first day on the job has been an adventure. These pants look great on him and they are stretch twill! Yay! I had picked up some black and brick-colored knit collars at The Place That Sells Sewing Machines but now I have olive-colored pants...what to do? Here's what: I'm going to try and find matching olive knit or woven material to use on the work shirt placket and (maybe) collar! How coordinated he will be! Oddly, dh doesn't seem as excited about this as I am....

Print Fabric Possibility

Print fabrics are hard for me. I'm afraid they look busy and accenuate curves that are plenty accentuated without any extra help. But since my wardrobe plan calls for a print I've been looking around and I found this one at Vogue Fabrics . It has black, gray, charcoal, pink and purple. I could sure work with it. It's priced right, too--56" wide @ $6.99/yd.
